Easy Summer Outfit Formulas That Actually Work

Let’s be honest..summer dressing isn’t always as effortless as it sounds. Between unpredictable weather, staying cool, and still wanting to feel put together, it’s easy to feel stuck.

So, in this post I’m breaking down the exact summer outfit formulas I’ve been wearing on repeat — comfy, chic, colourful, and most importantly, wearable. These are the kinds of looks that feel good, look good, and don’t require buying a whole new wardrobe.

The No-Brainer Coord Set

Hello, World!

When in doubt, grab a co-ord. Especially in summer — they’re breezy, easy to wear, and instantly polished. I’m wearing a black linen-blend one here from River Island, but H&M and Zara also have great options. Bonus: linen blends don’t crease as much, so they’re perfect for travel or beach days.

A Dress + Cropped Cardigan

Throw a crop cardi over a summer dress and you’ve got a comfy but layered look that works for unpredictable weather (hello, London). I wore this yellow floral dress with a cobalt blue cardigan for brunch and got so many compliments — the colour combo just popped.

Linen Shirt + Draw-string Pants

This is a go-to when I don’t want to think too hard. A loose linen shirt (mine’s from H&M) + elasticated trousers = breathable and effortless. I’ve been reaching for bold colours like yellow or orange, but this works in all neutrals too

Waistcoat + Maxi Skirt

This combo is giving Pinterest core. I styled a denim waistcoat with a green maxi skirt and leaned into the colour-blocking with silver accessories. It’s flattering, slightly unexpected, and so easy to pull together.

Graphic Tee + Slacks

T-shirt and trousers, but make it fun. I added a graphic tee, my fave baker boy hat, chunky sandals and layered accessories to elevate the look. You can keep the base simple and go big on accessories.

Tank Top + Denim Shorts

The classic. I styled mine with a red-and-white striped tank and added my partner’s baseball jersey over the top for a sporty edge. Finished it off with bright trainers to tie it all together. Think: effortless errands outfit with a cool-girl twist.

Dress Over Jeans

I’ve been seeing this on Pinterest and finally gave it a try — love! Pairing a sheer or lightweight dress over denim jeans adds structure and makes a dress feel fresh again. I styled mine with chunky sandals and a white crossbody for contrast.
